In 2001, Argentina’s economy collapsed, leaving over 60% of the population in poverty. Faced with few other options, many workers reoccupied the bankrupted businesses where they worked before and reopened them for production. These workers began to restart the economy, literally from the bottom up.
The conditions of post-crisis Argentina bear a striking resemblance to those around theworld today: historic levels of unemployment, a lack of quality jobs, and deteriorating living conditions. Prospects of a quick economic recovery from the global economic crisis are grim, especially with the top-down approaches offered as solutions around the world. Ten years after economic crisis in Argentina, the recovered businesses and workercooperatives are proving to be a genuine solution to creating real work and fighting unemployment.
Join the workers and help build a sustainable economy.
